About PQE-2005
The Winter Colloquium on the Physics of Quantum Electronics,
known as PQE, is an annual physics conference
that attracts the world's experts in laser physics, quantum
physics, and many other areas. This was the 35th year of
the meeting.

The 35th Winter Colloquium on the Physics of Quantum
Electronics was held in the glorious setting of Snowbird, Utah
from 2-6 January 2005. The meeting began with a reception on
Sunday, 2 January in honor of the 2005 recipients of the Willis E. Lamb medal for
Laser Science and Quantum Optics: Gérard Mourou,
Szymon Suckewer and Sune Svanberg. During the week, attendees
enjoyed the congenial atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and
talks and presentations on the latest topics in quantum
electronics. The meeting was extremely well attended with
over 200 papers being presented. Topics of special interest
at the meeting included quantum optics, quantum information,
ultracold atoms, quantum cascade lasers, artificial optical
materials, electromagnetically induced transparency, and
nuclear and molecular interactions. The meeting was organized
by Marlan O. Scully, George R. Welch and M. Suhail Zubairy,
all of Texas A&M University.
