About PQE-2006
The Winter Colloquium on the Physics of Quantum Electronics,
known as PQE, is an annual physics conference
that attracts the world's experts in laser physics, quantum
physics, and many other areas. This was the 36th year of
the meeting.

Journal of Modern Optics was published as a proceedings for
the conference. The following is a reprint of the

The 36th Winter Colloquium on the Physics of Quantum
Electronics was held in the glorious setting of Snowbird,
Utah from January 2 through 6, 2006. The meeting began
with a reception on Sunday, 2 January in honour of the
2006 recipients of the
Willis E. Lamb medal for Laser
Science and Quantum Optics: Raymond Chiao, Roy Glauber,
and Manfred Kleber. The rest of the week combined superb
technical talks and informal discussion in the congenial
surrounding of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest area. The
meeting was extremely well attended and over 200 papers were
presented. Topics of special interest at the meeting included
quantum information science, metamaterials, quantum optics
theory, electromagnetically induced transparency, quantum
control, slow light, and ultrafast spectroscopy. The meeting
was organized by Marlan O. Scully, and George R. Welch and
M. Suhail Zubairy all of Texas A&M University.
