PQE-2018 Abstract submission

As usual, we
hope to present a Best Abstract
so please make a great abstract.

Preparation: Please prepare a 1
page abstract using any software you wish. We do not impose
any requirement for how they should look — however we
strongly recommend that you put your name and talk title in
larger print near the top.
Guidelines. Here are guidelines for making a good abstract.
The abstract should effectively communicate what
the talk will be about. It should entice the reader to come to
The abstract should look good. This suggests the need for
at least one nice figure. Graphics are good. Clear, pretty,
graphics are better!
- Easy reading.
The abstract should not make the reader struggle.
Twelve point font is a must with long lines. Some people
use two columns, but don't use that as an excuse for
tiny fonts. Put your name and affiliaion at the top.
Many authors make their abstracts look like a mini paper,
so that readers are comfortable looking at it.
- Efficient use of space.
PQE allows an 8.5x11 inch page (minus 2 cm margins).
This is a lot of room, and we would like to see it used well.
One short paragraph leaving most of the page blank is a poor use of
space. An entire page crammed with single-spaced 8 point font is bad.
Examples. Here are some examples of abstracts we think look nice:
- The abstract should be less than 3 Mega-bytes. If you need a larger size,
email us at the address at the bottom of this page.
- The abstracts will be printed on
US letter sized paper (215.9
mm wide by 279.4 mm high). We need a 2 cm border all
the way around, so your page will be cropped accordingly.
Make sure your title and
the material at the bottom are not cropped out.
The abstracts will be rendered in monochrome (black and white)
at 600 dpi for our printer. (This should look quite good.)
- Basically, we just print all the pages we get, sort
them in some sensible way, and bind them together for you.
File Type: PDF
- We are not able to accept any file type other than PDF.
However we recommend that you use software that will embed your
fonts in the PDF file. If your PDF file contains fonts that
are not embedded, we are not sure if what we print looks like
what you think you sent. However, you will get to preview
what we think we are going to print, so if you cannot embed
the fonts at least you can check how it will look.
- The conference program is usually only regenerated daily,
or every few days. If you submit your abstract or change your
title, please allow a few days for this to show up in the program.
